GUEST POST: Six Songs You Should Add to Your Playlist
DISCLAIMER: As mentioned Friday, I'm spending a long weekend celebrating with friends. Also, when you're unemployed, every weekend is a long weekend, technically. One is bad, the other is good. The duality of man. Makes you think. Now where'd my peyote go?
Fortunately, my youngest child, Pip, stepped to the plate with a batch of tunes they think will make your Monday better.
Pip is a senior at Columbia College in Chicago, majoring in music business. They're graduating this May. They also talked their way into attending this year's SXSW in Austin as part of a class assignment. I envy them.
Most of these songs were way off my radar, with a couple exceptions. You'll find indie rock, jangle pop, sad boys, atonal guitar noise, eurodisco, and more. Something for everyone.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Multiple acts below have some fun with punctuation and lowercase, I promise I'm not making errors.
"Gingham dress," cootie catcher
"Johnny Sunshine," Liz Phair
NOTE FROM DAD: We played this record a lot when Pip was a kid.
"Hey," Kitchen
"You and I," Madleen Kane
"Shooting star," Audrey Hobert
"Saltpeter," mail.
BONUS TRACK
"Talk Down," Dijon
They requested we add this because "it's such a effing banger." Good call, Pip. Dijon also endorsed by Midwest Excellence Design Genius Tanner B.
See you tomorrow.
