ICE is leaving. Allegedly.

The government official saying it's over lied before, is lying right now, and will lie again before this paragraph ends. They kidnapped someone on Central in Minneapolis Thursday AM; they got into a high speed chase in Cathedral Hill, of all places, on Wednesday. There's someone fearing for their life and their family in Richfield or Brooklyn Park or Columbia Heights as you read this.

No one is taking a victory lap yet.

The positive? We're going to win. Fascism doesn't have a constituency. Nobody wants this shit. They can say they accomplished what they needed to and take their ball and go home, but EVERYONE knows the truth. They got their dicks kicked in by teachers, priests, Edina moms, hockey dads, annoying internet guys, bar owners, realtors, ironic Entourage fans, the whole 2026 melting pot.

I doubt we'll have a V-E Day for this. It'll be incremental, and there will be so much work to do to rebuild the city and state economies devastated by the federal government's reign of terror.

But still, party at my house when it's over. Weather's up next, but first a word from our sponsors.

Weather

Got a record-breaking weekend on tap, with a high of 50 possible in the metro and temps in the 60s down by Marshall and Luverne. Don't put those shovels away just yet though, as a more active pattern with a chance for snow and mixed precipitation enters the forecast later next week. (Forecast courtesy Matt Serwe, KSTP.)

Coming up in sports, the Wolves enter the All-Star break on a high note, while the U.S. men cruise versus Latvia at the Winter Olympics.

Sports

It's Friday morning, and the weirdest people you'll ever meet in your goddamn life are furious about last Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show.

It is the editorial position of Midwest Excellence that if you are mad about a Super Bowl halftime show, even if it's Maroon 5, you don't have enough actual problems in your life and you need to throw your phone in a lake.

If you're still mad about it almost a week later, you should not be allowed to drive and are also apparently a member of Congress.

In other news, here's my Twins Daily piece for this week.

Housekeeping

As promised, next week I'll get the subscription model up and running. Unless something changes, it'll be something like this:

*$5/month for all content

*$6/month for all content plus commenting privileges

*$10/month for all content, commenting, and a Midwest Excellence T-shirt

*$20+/month for all content, commenting, and a Midwest Excellence sweatshirt

I'm very open to feedback on this! I don't want to rip anyone off but I also would like to help Mandy pay the bills. One day per week will always be free to the genpop, let's say Tuesday?

Have a great weekend. See you Monday. Abolish ICE.
